Thamilagam 2050

Dialysis saves lives — but it shouldn’t define them. In India, people on dialysis often spend 16–30 hours each week hooked to machines, and over 80% face financial hardship because of treatment costs. Nearly half report severe disruptions to work, family, and daily life.
KHI is joining a global call to “End Dialysis as the Norm” by 2050.
Because chronic kidney disease is rising fast — it was the 18th leading cause of death globally in 1990, and by 2050, it’s projected to be the 5th. That’s not just a statistic — it’s a warning. Current treatments have barely evolved in 50 years. We need innovation, not stagnation.
• Early detection and prevention to stop disease before it starts
• Better, more humane treatments beyond conventional dialysis
• Equitable access to care, especially for the most vulnerable
• Increased investment in kidney research and innovation
KHI is fighting for a kidney-safe future. Looking ahead to 2050, we are driving a kidney health revolution — one rooted in equity, innovation, and reform. We’re working alongside communities, and health professionals, to bring kidney disease into national focus, demand better diagnosis and treatment, and ensure no one is left behind.
Together, we are rewriting the story of kidney disease in India — with hope, action, and lasting change.
